Samsung are developing a new 10.1 inch LCD display that has been designed especially for tablets. With a resolution of 2560 by 1600 pixels.
The display has 300 pixels per inch, which gives it a resolution within the Apple “Retina” range. which falls just short of the iPhone 4's 326 dpi an could be considered the first "Retina" display for tablets. According to the manufacturer, the screen delivers a brightness of 300 cd/m2 indoor and outdoor as much as 600 cd/m2 to, which should be enough to see content on the display even in direct sunlight.
“Samsung’s PenTile display technology is the only display technology that operates at 40 percent less power yet provides twice that of Full HD-viewing performance for consumers compared to legacy RGB stripe LCDs. There is no other commercial display technology on the market today that offers this high of a resolution and pixel density in a 10.1-inch size display,” said Dr. Sungtae Shin, Senior VP of Samsung Electronics.
